This year at the Quilt & Sewing Expo, I stepped out of my quilting comfort zone into the completely new (and often intimidating) world of Couture Sewing. Fortunately, I met world class teachers who generously shared their knowledge. By the end of each class, my brain felt stuffed with new possibilities and my confidence soared.
Meet Lorraine Henry, a fitting expert, in her class “Measurements and their Relationships”.
Lorraine introduced the class and explained things easily and clearly. Her style is upbeat and friendly as she gives you tools that you will be able to take home and use.
In the second photo, Lorraine demonstrates how to remove the seam allowance from a pattern, leaving a hinge.
In the last photo, you see the final adjustments that make a pattern fit perfectly. Lorraine uses examples from real people to explain fitting issues and showed us how to adjust for proper fit. Her hinge technique is one I’m looking forward to trying out myself.
It’s my birthday so (in the tradition of Hobbits) I have a present for you. Make your quilting wishes come true with $15 off any quilting job delivered to Kinsey Quilts by 5pm on Nov. 15.
Purple Power was designed for someone facing a multitude of challenges. When I heard Sariah’s story, I had to make this quilt. First she lost her home in a fire, then her job, then she had a car accident, and while recovering in the hospital she found out she has MS. I used the fabric left by her Godmother and quilted every encouraging word of hope and healing that I could think of in the blocks. I hope it brings her comfort and courage.
