Who is Donna MJ Kinsey?
Hi. I grew up on the shores of Saginaw Bay on Lake Huron in Michigan and have lived in Texas longer than anywhere. I married a brilliant native Texan computer wizard (who is also an awesome quilt and jewelry designer). We live in Weatherford, TX in a Monolithic Dome which I designed and built with the help of the Monolithic Dome Institute in Italy, Texas (monolithicdome.com).

Why the MJ?
Donna Michele comes from my father, Donald Ralph Michael. Julia comes from my great grandmother who taught me to sew. I use both initials because Donna Kinsey is an unusually common name.

My Quilting/Sewing Background:
I have been doing hand embroidery for over 50 years. Over forty years ago, I began designing and piecing quilts which I quilted by hand or by domestic sewing machine. I now finish quilts on a professional handguided longarm quilting machine. Design Originals published 2 quilting books for me: Strip Happy: Quilting on a Roll and Stripping Along: Applique Quilts on a Roll (co-authored with Linda Rocamontes). I have a few books available for sale if you want a signed copy- look for Donna Kinsey and the book title on Amazon.com.

Memberships: American Sewing Guild, Parker County Quilt Guild, Trinity Valley Quilt Guild, Bear Creek Quilt Guild

Other Interests:
I have a BA in European Renaissance History and a Masters in Mathematics and Education. I taught public school for 10 years, Junior College for 2 years, and was Professor of Mathematics at DeVry University for 10 years. I also taught character development and history for Renaissance Faires and worked on staff and as a performer, musician, singer, dancer and actor for 20 years. I play guitar, tin whistle, bodhran (Celtic drum), and an assortment of other strings and percussion instruments. I enjoy Renaissance period dance, English & Scottish Country dance, and Middle Eastern dance. I make Medieval and Renaissance period costumes and I make my own Middle Eastern dance costumes.
I am also an artist. I design my own continuous line quilt designs and I like to draw Zentangle Inspired Art (ZIA). I am a Certified Zentangle Teacher  and I offer an ever growing list of classes at my studio in Weatherford, TX. I also offer classes for groups and in private homes. My Zentangle art was recently published by Fox Chapel in the book “Beauty of Zentangle” which features art from 140 artists worldwide.
I grew up doing all sorts of paper arts and continue making cards with my family. In my free time, I write poetry and historical novels which I share with friends. I love to read and learn new things; philosophy, biographies, & history are my non-fiction favorites. I enjoy some Sci-Fi and historical fiction. My favorite authors are Jane Austen, JRR Tolkien & Shakespeare. I have read all the Harry Potter books many times as well as Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series. I highly recommend Linda Berdoll’s Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife and Darcy & Elizabeth. Mrs. Berdoll’s style is engaging, intelligent and thought provoking.
